Nadine Kaslow, Ph.D., ABPP, Professor at Emory University School of Medicine Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences,
presented to faculty and agency internship and practicum supervisors on a competency-based approach to clinical supervision.
Guiding principles for effective supervision and for setting the stage for effective supervision was provided. The presentation focused on multicultural sensitivity in the conduct of supervision and ethical and legal issues in supervision.
Kaslow has received numerous awards from the American Psychological Association and is on the board of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers. Kaslow has over 200 publications and is associate editor of three journals. She also met with doctoral students preparing for the internship experience. Currently she holds grants from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute of Mental Health focused on treatment of intimate partner violence and suicidal behavior in African American Women. She also holds a grant that focuses on helping families cope with the loss of a loved one due to suicide.
The presentation was part of the center’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) designed to promote strong relationships between the university and practicum supervisors toward the end of improving training for students.
